Basic Steeping Tips
- Use filtered or spring water, whenever possible
- Don’t overboil water
- Remove leaves after recommended time (adjust to taste)
- If you want stronger tea, use more leaves instead of steeping for a longer time
Leaves can be re-steeped 2-3 times resulting in various flavor differences. Don’t throw out those leaves until they have given it all up!

Shizandra has been used for healing purposes for over 2000 years. It is one of the many traditional Chinese herbs that are recommended for coughs and various nonspecific pulmonary diseases.

It also contains phytoestrogens, which help menopausal women to treat cardiovascular diseases. Among the other diseases Shizandra is known to treat include insomnia, irritation, palpitation, and dyspnea. It is also used for the treatment of skin disorders and as a sedative. Shizandra is also rich in minerals, vitamins, and essential oils.
The Shizandra fruit is known as “wu wei zi” in Chinese, meaning “five taste fruit” because it has a sweet, salty, bitter, hot, and sour taste.
